Mantell Associates is partnered with a rapidly advancing Cell & Gene Therapy company is seeking an experienced and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead its financial organisation from its Boston headquarters.
This senior executive role is ideal for a hands-on finance leader with deep biopharma experience, strong operational acumen, and a track record of steering high-growth life sciences organisations through complex commercial, clinical, and capital cycles.
Chief Financial Officer – Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic financial leadership to shape long-term growth, profitability and sustainable value creation across the organisation
- Lead all financial functions including accounting, financial planning & analysis (FP&A), budgeting, forecasting, treasury, tax, compliance, and reporting
- Partner with the CEO and executive team to develop financial strategy, assess investment priorities, and inform decisions related to R&D, commercial expansion, partnering, and capital allocation
- Drive effective capital management and investor engagement strategies – including fundraising, debt/equity financing, grant management and IPO readiness if applicable
- Ensure robust financial governance, risk management, internal controls, compliance with GAAP/IFRS, and readiness for external audits and regulatory reporting
- Collaborate with operations, commercial, clinical, and legal teams to align financial planning with business performance and emerging opportunities in cell & gene therapy markets
- Lead financial modelling and business case development to support strategic initiatives, value drivers, and enterprise optimisation
- Recruit, mentor, and grow a high-performing finance team while fostering a culture of accountability, transparency, and cross-functional partnership
Chief Financial Officer – Requirements:
- 10+ years of progressive finance leadership experience in the biotech, biopharmaceutical or advanced therapy sectors; CDMO or drug developer experience is a strong advantage
- Demonstrated track record as a CFO, VP Finance, or equivalent senior finance leader with responsibility for strategic financial planning, capital markets engagement, and scaling financial operations
- Deep understanding of biopharma financial lifecycle, including R&D investment dynamics, commercial revenue models, reimbursement landscape, and regulatory cost structures
- Strong analytical and executive communication skills with the ability to translate complex financial insight into strategic business decisions
- Experience with fundraising, investor relations, and managing board-level financial discussions in high-growth environments
- Exceptional people leadership skills with experience building, coaching and empowering finance teams
- Based in the Boston area (or willing to relocate) with eligibility to work in the U.S.; hybrid on-site presence expected
